Greetings I have a Siemens S7 1200 PLC setup with 8 extension modules. The first 6 modules are SM 1223 DI16/DQ16 x relay while the last 2 are SM 1231 AI8 x TC and SM 1231 AI8 respectively. I know the maximum limit of extension modules is documented to be 8, and i have not surpassed that limit. However, the whole rack faults each time i use 6 DI/DQ modules and the fault clears when i reduce the DI/DQ module number to 5. All the electrical connections have been tested to be fine including the module itself by doing slot swapping and IO cable swapping, so nothing is wrong with the installation, it simply wont accept more than 5 DI/DQ extension modules. The fault codes which pop up in the diagnostics buffer are "fault in lower level component" and "IO process image fault" Is there a reason why this is happening? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

What is the S7-1200 part # you are using? S7-1214 / S7-1215 / S7-1217?

Its a 1215C, I ended up moving the channels from the last module to spares channels in previous slots as a quick fix. But I would still like to know how to avert it in future as I did not solve the actual problem. |
