S7-1200 & Profibus

PaulMoffat Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	In reviewing the documents on the new S7-1200 series, I notice that PROFIBUS is no longer supported! The communications capability listed are for Modbus and USS and cannot go higher than 115k baud (besides the built-in PROFINET port). Step 7 Basic has no listing for NETR or NETW. So what happened?

Configured with the standard T-Send / T-Receive instructions ... Even in "previous" S7-200 family, Profibus communication is not so useful. I found other opinion for S7-1200. Program can only be in the KOP or FUP. AWL altogether removed. STL is only next year. Who is it good for? A premature baby, but not PLC. My opinion is - of course in the beginnig every new product has some bugs, doesn't supports all possibilities... Maybe Siemens should wait for representation of this product, but maybe in this way they make "checking" the market. They released to this moment only S7-1200 family. For the other "brothers" 1300 and 1400, to this moment haven't any information. Best regards Hristo Mihalev

Yes it seems Profibus module is not there (for the time being). I don't knowwhat info.you have but the presentation I have in my handstalks about Profinet interface (Engineering, HMI, PLC-PLC) howeverI can see a small text saying. §PROFINET I/O Controller/Device functionality in preparation§ What I mean is that they don't have everything ready now or in better words, we still don't have a complete image of the new successor. PaulMoffat So what happened? I've seen some presentations. They are focusing on 2 things (I think 2 good things) the integrated engineering environment and the Profinet interface. From the snapshots I can tell that they are hiding a big surprise. I'm not talking about Step 7 Basic V10 but I mean the tool that hasn't been shown yet for new generations of S7-300 and S7-400. (I think we can see the new tools in the nextfewyears) I've seen a slideshowing thatthis new step 7 Basic V10and Simatic Manager professional 2006 are going to merge in the futurein a complete new software called Step 7 Professional version 11. The products don't come with all spectrun of the modules at the fist time. The development and releases will come with the time and the demand. In this point of view, it is clear that Profinet will be the first option. That is focus on future... Naturally it always possible to use IE/PB link to work with Profibus devices.

Mr D Posts: 21 Rating: (4)	Hi, In the first release the supported communications protocol are: 1. Ethernet port TCP 2. Ethernet port ISO on TCP 3. Ethernet port S7 Communications Server 4. RS232/485 CM Modbus RTU Master 5. RS232/485 CM Modbus RTU Slave 6. RS232/485 CM USS 7. RS232/485 CM Point to Point In the second release we are expecting a Profinet Controller/Device CM and Profibus Master/Slave CM. The S7-1200 currently has 80% of the S7-200 functionality. This is only to be expected on a first release of a new platform. Hope this helps?
