I am wondering is there a possibility to use s7 1200 cpu as master controller, and the to use interface module (IM) to open a new rack in electric cabinet? My idea is to use s7 1200 controller and signal cards as distributed I/O, the same as it is possibile with et200sp. I just don't want to use s7 1500 as a controller, instead I want to make the same configuration with sy 1200.

So, is it possibile?

Of course you can use the S7-1200 controllers with distributed I/O systems, whether from Siemens (ET 200M, ET 200S, ET 200MP, ET 200SP....) or from other manufacturers, such as Wago, Weidmuller and others.

Easiest is using the integrated Profinet port on the S7-1200 controller for distributed I/O connection. You can also add a Profibus master (CM 1243-5) to the S7-1200 rack so you can setup remote I/O on Profibus-DP just as easily.
