Do you also have the problem of transmitting the $-sign? Or are you having trouble with Modbus? You need to consider making a proper problem statement if these are not the problem you have.

As a matter of interest:
The $ character is used to indicate special characters. '$L' for example is for the linefeed character which is also represented by '$0A'.  To get the $-sign you have to use x2 characters '$$'.
