Hello MHMD.S; For the S7-1500 family of CPUs, Siemens proposes a redundancy solution based on the S7-1500H or S7-1500R as high-availability CPUs. You can start with a presentation of these products here: The S7-1500R CPUs use a Profinet link to communicate between the redundant CPUs, with a fail-over time of 300 ms, while the S7-1500H use a fiber-optic connection between them, with a fail-over time of around 50 ms. In both cases you will need to use remote I/O systems over Profinet line/ring (ET200M Pand/or ET200SP) , there will be no backplane connection for the I/O modules directly on the CPUs. For more details, you also have access to the S7-1500R/H system manual here: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ca/en/view/109754833 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

If you do not require redundancy and simply want to swap failed modules without powering everything down, the vast majority of s7-1500 modules are hot-swappable. Check the s7-1500 system manual for a complete list of hot-swappable and non-hot-swappable modules. After you have that, you can decide if that meets your new project's needs. I think you will find it likely does. Power Supply modules cannot be hot-swapped. Here's an older FAQ on the subject: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109744698 For local I/O using active Backplane Bus, refer to: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109816745

Hello MHMD.S; Sorry I misunderstood your question earlier. This document from SIOS provides the information you wanted, snd confirms the information from O.Einstein: for IO module hotswap on a S7-1500 system, you will need an ET 200 M (with active bus modules for max. 2 slots), a ET 200S an ET 200 MP (with active bus modules for 4 or 12 slos), or an ET 200SP. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/109744698 For information on redundant power supplies for the S7-1500, this discussion could provide guidance on SITOP units: https://support.industry.siemens.com/forum/ca/en/posts/redundant-ps-for-1500/178897 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
