hello experts. I'm going to work on a large project which consists of 500 Digital input and 120 digital output output and 60 analog input and 20 analog output. The system is s7-1500 and will connected with HMI and scada system. How can I make a selection for this system? Any help will be appreciated. |

Hi hossamhegab, for selecting the hardware, I would recommend the TIA Selection Tool. This software is free for use and available as cloud version and as standalone version for Windows 10. In both versions, you can use the plant configuration to get a hardware selection for your requirements. Kind regards |

Hi hossamhegab, the choice of the PLC does not depend on the amount of I/Os. For this, the required performance and the required memory would be important. It might also be important to know, if integrated safety or enhanced technology functions would be required. In the current situation, the delivery time may also be a decisive factor for the choice of hardware. If you think about the use of the decentralized periphery, for in-cabinet use, I would recommend the SIMATIC ET 200SP. For periphery outside the cabinet, the SIMATIC ET 200AL. For further advice, I recommend contacting the Siemens Technical Consulting. You can use the contact database to find the contact details for your location. Kind regards |

What I am hearing is that you are wanting someone to spoon feed you to make a selection. I say it aloud because I am normally wrong in these assumptions. Regardless,,, it is best to contact an application Engineer from Siemens. Hopefully they can work through the project with you. Physical connection of devices is not the only requirement to look at. There is also the processing of the signals. The control concept could be simple or complicated; high or low cycle times; process or motion control; distributed IO vs distributed control vs central control. The forum is manned by volunteers who is best to provide guidance. Beyond that requires us to ask money for services rendered. My suggestion is to put an S7-1500 in the TIA Selection Tool. Add the cards you need to make up the IO count. Watch for the warnings of power consumption. Watch for the size of the build. Get a feel for what can be done. Then come in contact with a Siemens office. ~ |

If you already know the appropriate CPU to use, start with that. Otherwise, (if you want to tackle it yourself before talking with your local Siemens distributor / sales rep) look at the Description of each available CPU and choose one you think has AT LEAST everything required to control and communicate with your local and remote IO hardware and devices (like drives, HMI, network hardware). If you choose Profinet, you have chosen well. If you choose Profibus, you have chosen, and well, it is a choice you can make.
