s7-1500 Motion with ABB Fena-21 card

Hi all, 

looking for some help with compatibility issues between an ABB FENA-21 Profinet module and the S7-1500T motion control objects. The FENA-21 has inbuilt Profidrive telegrams 1 and 2 but they are not recognised by the technology configuration tool in tiaporal.

For now I am using the MC-Pre / MC-Post to push the data through a Datablock with the PD_TEL1 structure but I don't like it and would really prefer a direct connection to the drive. I should note the encoder is external in this setup so only profidrive telegram 1 is required.

I have contacted ABB directly about this issue and I am waiting for a response. 

As a second resort I was wondering if anyone would know if some simple modifications to the GSD file that would allow the TIAportal configurator to accept it. Or at least a starting point. I have never written a GSD file myself.

I'm by far NO expert on GSDMLs, but to me it seems that ABB does not devlare the standard telegram 1 really like a PROFIdrive telegram should be declared in the GSDML. But as I said: I'm no expert on this, it's just my assumption!

Anyway, if you're sure this really is structured and behaves like the PROFIdrive telegram 1 and 2, then you could just set the checkbox for "show all modules" within the picker-dialog where you want to pick the telegram. With this the TO disables all its checks, so then really shows everything to pick.

BUT: do this only if you're sure the telegram is alright. The TO simply expects everything you pick to work according to PROFIdrive, so this any device you pick there - no matter if with or without "show all modules" - needs to behave accordingly.

But generally your approach to solve  this with TO to DB connection and copy/paste the data in Pre- and PostServo is also not wrong at all. Personally I think this is even a little nicer than using the "show all modules" option, as with using Pre-/PostServo one really sees what you're doing, so anybody working on this project after you in a few years might get an idea. With using "show all modules" this is a lot more...discreet or hidden, one might say.

I appreciate the time you took to write your answer.

From comparing the telegrams they do appear to match the standard and of course with good testing I'll confirm they operate as expected. I didn't not notice that box previously so I may go down this path.

I've had to work on black boxes before so I understand the value in allowing future integrators to easily see the entirety of the workings of the system. You have given me a compelling reason to keep the DB, something I'll think about.
