I am looking for an OPC DA Server, to connect to my S7 1500. My client has an existing OPC Client installed, so I only need server side.

So, single OPC DA Server+License. What can you guys recommend?

I would use OPC UA Server to connect to S71500. Its because you can only access Optimized DBs with OPC UA Server. Here you can use the SIAMTIC Net OPC Server of Siemens.

If you use non optimised Block access then you could try

Its for S71200 but theoretically it could work also for S71500. I only tried it with S71200 before, so no guarantie!

To do that, you can use Simatic Net V13.

The DB in the cpu has to be non-optimized, and in the configuration of the project, you just need to insert the OPC server as a version 8.2, because if you insert it as v13 it will not be able to access the non-optimized DBs as OPC DA.

What does the customer mean with hardware?

Can he be more specific?

OPC DA transfers values between the server and client.

If he wants information about what hardware he is reading data from, you could put this information in a string that he is reading from.

An alternative is that you use SNMP server to poll this data from network devices. Perhaps this is what the customer has heard about/is referring to:
