S7 1516 and ABB M2M via profibus

Hello everybody,

has anyone implemented profibus communication between S7 1516 and ABB M2M energy meters?

I've tried but I cannot communicate with the device.

Everything seems to be OK: no diagnostics message, Profibus communication established but no data exchange.

I've used DPRD_DAT and DPWR_DAT to read and write the peripheral with no error but I cannot read datas.

Any help is appriciated

Hello dadoverga,

Good advantage of Profibus compare to some other protocols is GSD configuration file.

It makes communication from Master side at least side of software developer equal regardless of slave device. Once your GSD slave file from device manufacturer is inserted into DP Master system, it is the same is it schneider device XYZ or ABB M2M or even Siemens equipment....Means many examples are available for you, you don't need to try explicit example with exact your device type.

• Insert your PLC and assign to your PLC Profibus address -> inside Properties -> General ->  Profibus address -> Add Subnet, configure address ,  transmission rate. Inside network view select profibus front connector and under right click choice assign to DP master system.
• Find your slave device GSD inside hardware catalog and place it into profibus network. Take a look picture 1.
• From hardware catalog configure I/O addresses of your slave device. Pay attention in my example starting I address is 0 to the 99, and for Q it is 100 to the 199.
  
• Create DB1 dbReadDataStorage  and disable option "Optimized data block access" ->Pic8.
• Create DB2 dbWriteDataStorage  and disable option "Optimized data block access" ->Pic 8.
• Inside both of them create Arrays of 100 bytes for the case of this example. Pics 6 and 7.
• Create FC500 HW_BYTE_READ. It checks size of your read data block and tries to read that number of bytes from peripheral Input area.  Inputs to the FC are Pointer to the starting location on peripheral Input area, and destination DB number, DB1 in this example. Take a look picture 4. for Function interface details.
