S7 200 and Fiber Obtics ring connection

hcn Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have 7 S7 200 PLC act as slave and 1 S7 200 or S7 300 acts as master. Connection requirement is Fible Obtic ring connection. Could any one recommend me the configuration: Software, Module ... Thansk for attention. Attachment untitled.JPG (55 Downloads)

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I am not sure... but I guess you want to use PROFIBUS, do you? If you want to use PROFIBUS DP you will have to use a S7-300, S7-200 PLC's do not offer DP Master functions. For configuring the DP Slaves, S7-200, MicroWin is fully sufficient. For the DP Master and the general Bus parameter setyou will have to use STEP 7. I hope this will help. Best regards J_Bell

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear hcn, as you do PROFIBUS and you want to create an optical ring topology the OLM PROFIBUS is the choice I would choose. The question here is the distance to decide which one of the OLM you would use G12 or P12. Do you already know the manual? Best regards J_Bell

hcn Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	Thanks J_Bell. As I know, the OLM is converter between Profibus RS485 and Profibus Obtic. So that, when configuring network it similar as all network is Profibus RS485. Right?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well, PROFIBUS is the only way to go with redundant optical rings. If you do not want to use PROFIBUS a ring is a no go. Electrical rings will not work. Optical rings with RS485 converters may work but are surely not supported by SIEMENS. Best regards J_Bell
