Hello fabio; I would like to add a little information to our friend quazee's reply. Yes, the programming port(s) on a S7-200 are RS 485. But natively they support PPI protocol. If you are lucky enough to work with an HMI that can support PPI (Beijer, Maple systems, RED LION...), then all is well, all you would need is a PC PPI cable to connect your CPU to the HMI. If your HMI supports MPI (another Siemens protocol for S7-300 CPUs) then you could also use it, with a Multi-master PC cable (see appendix A of the system manual below). You can add communication modules to the S7-200 either for Profibus-DP (EM 277, as a Profibus slave) and for Ethernet TCP/IP (CP 243-1), so you could find these alternatives interesting. Other options would be to use the programming port as a straight serial comm port over RS-485, with so-called Freeport protocol control. This would mean programming the data to transmit in a table (TBL instruction) and using XMIT instructions. Or you could use Modbus RTU, if you have already the Modbus/USS library on hand (I saw recently that it had been removed from the Siemens offerings). You will find basic information on these protocols in the S7-200 System manual, a very precious document if you are working with these processors: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/1109582 Look up the chapter "Communicating over a network", it will provide you with a great amount of details on PPI, MPI, Profibus and TCP/IP networks. There is a chapter on Modbus exchanges, and you can look up Freeport in the S7-200 Instructions. One final alternative you might find useful: OPC, if your HMI panel does not have an acceptable protocol for the S7-200, but supports OPC as client.. To connect your S7-200 to a Scada or HMI through OPC-DA, and you have an Ethernet comm processor CP 243-1 for the S7-200 CPU,you should read up on the OPC server PC ACCESS in Appendix A of the system manual. The part number would be 6ES7 840--2CC01--0YX0 for SP6, functional with Windows 7 32/64 bit. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

The example U gave is correct. In HMI and Microwin. What DB9 cable u use on COM1? |
