S7-200 CPU 224XP, communication failed

In 3 months, I found 3 cpu 224XP DC/DC/DC failed. the failure is the same. communication becomes unstable first , then lost communication. When I disassemply the cpu, I found similar parts burned inside. The pic was attached. Maybe some potential difference on communication line ? Obviously it was come issue with voltages, because its not possible to burn PLC with correct communication and power supply voltages. Were it more S7-200's on the same line ? Did you disassembled them to check ?

Gandalf M Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi, Darius Thanks! In fact there are 4 machines with the same PLC system on site. However, only two have this issue. Have you seen the attached pic? The same part burned, this burned chip are resistors for communication? We have checked the communication cable and the power, seems no problem. If the input power and grouning is OK, could we use some protecting device to solve this problem?

As long as these components are near communication port then I could guess it is related to the port. Anyway it can't just burn. It was maybe some short shock or something else. Its very hard to determine problem from internet, but I would suggest to double check all groundings.

opreesh Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	i have replace about 3 of this kind of PLC and every time i power them up the pices near the comunication plug are smoking.. I have chek the voltage and allso replace the power supply but i still have the same problem . thank you for your replay

Attached the pin assignment of the S7-200 communication port, notice that there is 24V on the same connector, maybe you shortwire these pins. Also make sure proper earthing & proper grounding. Please revert back once you confirm the proper grounding. Best of luck.
