Hi, with CP443-5Ext. and CPU315 with DP interface you can communicate with DP Protocol or with BSEND/BRCV. I suggest using S7 Protocol and using BSEND / BRCV, because the DP solution is limited to 240 Bytes. In best case add both stations to same project. Select on station and add S7-Connection. Call SFB12 on S7 400 and FB12 on S7 300. |

Hi Rated X, thanx for the reply. the distance between these two panel is about 250 - 300 meters, will BSEND/BRCV logic work for such a long distance..? also please tell me which communication cable i have to use between these two panels..? Will you please tell me how to use s7-315 2PN/DP and s7-417's DP port for RS485 communication..? Thanks & Regards d_santosh

Hi, with this distance it is suggest to use fiber optic. You can use electrical cable too, but you have to observer EMC, Grounding and maybe lighting problems. If you have one of these points the only answer will be fiber optic. So you should use short electrical PROFIBUS Cable with two connectors. Then use PROFIBUS OLM to transfer to optical cable and on other side vice versa. Use glass fiber for this distance. There will be no problem with S7-Protocoll. Check online help of step7 forprogramming support of SFB12 and SFB13.Add both stations in one project, connect both to the same PROFIBUS Networkand open Netpro. Add S7connection and programthe SFB's(S7 400) andFB (S7 300). |

Hi Rated X, Thanks for the support. Please find the attachment of our present existing system for your information. At Panel-1 we have CPU-315 2PN/DP with OLM module 6GK1503-3CA00 SIMATIC NET OLM/P12 V4.0 At Panel-2 we have CPU-417 with OLM module SIMATIC NET OLM/P11 V4.0 The communication cable between these two OLM modules is PHINOLEX, 6 CORE, SINGLE MODE, ARMORED, GLASS FIBRE OPTIC CABLE Both the OLM modules required MULTI MODE GLASS FIBRE OPTIC CABLE. Hence there is no communication between both the panels. We found a convertor which sends data from RS-485 to Single Mode, For that we require RS-485 port at both the CPU/PLC. My question is can we use DP port of both the PLC’s (CPU 315 2PN/DP & CPU 417) for RS-485 communication? IF YES, then what settings I have to do in my PLC logic..? IF NO, then which module (supporting RS-485) I have to add in my PLC Hardware..? Also for that module what settings I have to keep in my PLC LOGIC…? Do I use CP340 or CP 341 for RS-485..? Or instead of RS 485 – single mode what configuration will you suggest for above mentioned hardware for the communication between two panels over the distance of 240 meter..? Hi, the OLM is the right way, but you have mentioned, that you use the OLM P... P = PLASTIC FIBRE!!!! You have the wrong OLM Modules for that type of cable. (or vice versa I suggest changing the OLM to OLM G... = GLAS and the using the right one for SINGLE MODE. OLM G1..-1300 = Glass fiber single mode 10/125µm. Check this manual chapter 4.1 to find the technical specification. SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS Optical Link Module OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / P12 V4.0 OLM / P22 V4.0 OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / G12 V4.0 OLM / G22 V4.0 OLM / G12-EEC V4.0 OLM / G11-1300 V4.0 OLM / G12-1300 V4.0 Operating InstructionsI would not use and RS485 transceivers, because RS485 is not PROFIBUS. PROFIBUS defines also communication protocol and timings on RS485 as Physical Layer!. |

Thanks Rated X, for yours support. i had gon through the link, but replacing both the OLM module is being expensive for our project, hence still my question is can we use DP port of both the PLC’s (CPU 315 2PN/DP & CPU 417) for RS-485 communication? IF YES, then what settings I have to do in my PLC logic..? IF NO, then which module (supporting RS-485) I have to add in my PLC Hardware..? Also for that module what settings I have to keep in my PLC LOGIC…? Do I use CP340 or CP 341 for RS-485..? |

Hello, yes the CP340 or CP341 is the right interface then on PLC side. BUT: YOU CAN'T USE THE OLM FOR RS485!!! The OLM is a PROFIBUS OLM. PROFIBUS is more than RS485. It will not work anyway! You need another converter between electrical cable and your fiber optic. You need 6ES7340-1CH00-0AE0 -- CP340 w. RS422/485-Interface Here you will find the pin out of the Port of CP340/341: How do the connection designations of the RS 422/485 interface of other companies go together with the Siemens designations? For communication you must use the Point to Point function blocks. |

Dear Rated x, thanx for the reply. please tell me what settings i'll have to do in my cpu harware configuration for both the CPU 315 & CPU 400..? it will be more helpfull if you provide any sample logic with such hardware configuration.. Thanks & Regards D_Santosh..
