S7-300 counter instructions

Tabby Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi guys, I am still learning s7-300 instruction set. I am having problems with the -(SC)- "set counter" and -(CU)- "Up Counter Coil" instructions. When using theDown Counter Coil (CD) the counter decrements well and even resets. But when i use the up counter coil (CU) the set counter coil and the (CU) both jump to the preset value and starts incrementing from there.

But when i use the up counter coil (CU) the set counter coil and the (CU) both jump to the preset value and starts incrementing from there. Check if count up and set counter coils do not have same trigger input.When both have same input, the time will be initiated and count up from there. Tabby Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	I tried that already but even now when I0.0 changes state from 0 to 1, with monitor on, the value jumps to 8002 for SC and CU. when I0.1 changes from 0 to 1 this value changes to a003 and continues to increment but toggles between 800x and a00x as I0.1 is toggled. I don't know if the settings of memory are correct or what just went wrong.

Tabby Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Got it. There were some setting changes in the representation. Someone had put hexadecimal and now av put automatic. Still my understanding was that when SC is executed, the preset value (2) is loaded to the specified counter and CU starts from 0 and counts up to the preset value. so if i were to use the counter current value in a process for counting purposes, how will i implement the limit when reached.

I think using a simple counter block is much easier that using several coils to do the same job.It is matter of preference, so select one method and go on.Also possible to transfer a counter value by MOVE to a memory area if you are currently using counter coils. see the attachment. Hello, Please upload snapshots of your work.Normally additional comparison is necessary for limt checks.If you read the online manual for up counter, the Q signal is active when counter value is greater than 0 .
