Hello Leon; The reason it is so easy to communicate with your CompactLogix PLC is because you were using Ethernet/IP, which is a protocol used by Rockwell, with your barcode scanner; Siemens does not support this protocol, so you have to change the way you connect to the barcode. First, you could look for a protocol converter between Rockwell's Ethernet/IP and Siemens' Industrial Ethernet (on the CP 343-1). Siemens has an application note on the use of an Echochange gateway just for this purpose: Communication between SIMATIC S7 and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix CPUs via Ethernet: Use of "Echochange" gateways Or you could use other protocols supported by Sick:you could selecttheir TCP/IP interface, also supported by the CP 343-1; you will have to program all the data exchange strings between the PLC and the scanner; ask Sick for more technical information. Or you could use a Profibus-DP interface between the S7-300 CPU and the barcode reader. This would be the easiest solution fior you, as Profibus-DP is natively supported by most Siemens PLCs.Sick will provide the required module and gsd file, along with the registers available for data exchange. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
