S7-300 program copy protection

ezepecker Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I'm wondering how to protect my S7-300 program for being copied from one PLC to another. I've read that I can use SFC51 in order to get PLC's CPU serial number. In this case am I supposed using that as a password? Is there any other way? What could I do? Best regards, Ezequiel

Best regards, Ezequiel Hello Ezequiel, You can make use of the Serial Number to ensure the copy protection. As the serial number is unique.

ezepecker Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Yes, but where is it supposed to be used? I mean, in TIA Portal software I right click on differents blocks and it appears an option which is "know-how protection". When I open this menu it appears a small window where I have to enter a password. Also if I go to CPU properties in the Network View and then to Protection property I can select: No Protection, Write Protection and Read/Write Protection and enter a password. But, the TIA portal help says that I'm supposed to see a text like "Bind to serial number of the CPU" or "Bind to serial number of the memory card" and I have to enter password there. Is it true? Where is this menu? And is it possible to do it in an automatic way? I mean, this way I have to get CPU o memory card serial number with SFC51 and then use it to protect all blocks. Is it possible to do it automatically? Thanks

If you wanna pass on your project to some one, then after applying Know-How portection, without knowing the right password, no one can view / edit it. Bind to Serial Number of Memory Card or CPU is applicable only to S7-1200. This binding will help you to ensure copy protection is done... (Assume, if the program is downloaded to a different CPU or different Memory Card, then your code will not work) For more details on this - refer Setting up and removing block copy protection What do you mean by automatically?

The only way is to use read/write protection and to use CPU serial number as password? When I say automatically I mean bind serial number with password and not by means of reading first serial number and then using it as a password. Thanks in advance.
