Mike_S99 Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Does anyone here have any experience communicating between S7-300 and ControlLogix? I would like to setup communications over Ethernet. I have done it in the past via PROFIBUS with the ControlLogix as a slave, but would prefer to use Ethernet this time. Any hardware recommendations and / or sample code? Thanks Mike

I believe there are some exotic gateways you can use between S7 and CIP but Inever use one. Recently I started a project aboutdirect connectivity between S7-CPU/CP and CLX and I am finalizing the specification. I am looking forward for any suggestions e.g. services/functions, assembly, client/server supported on CIP protocol etc. Dec

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 4/19/2025 Posts: 12346 Rating: (2710)	Hello Mike; Siemens has an applicationdocument where they suggest the INAT Echochange gateway (http://www.inat.de/):"Communication between SIMATIC S7 and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix CPUs via Ethernet: Use of "Echochange" gateways". Here is the link to the Application and Tools file: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/23901499 Here is a brief description of how the gateway operates: An Allen Bradley PLC wants to communicate with a Siemens PLC. ● Application data is encapsulated (CIP header). ● To encode CIP messages in Ethernet frames, the encapsulation header is added. ● TCP is used as transport protocol. A TCP header is added, then an IP header and lastly the MAC header. ● This Ethernet frame arrives at the echochange. ● Echochange has to convert TCP data with AB protocol into TCP data without application protocol. Therefore the MAC header, IP header, Encapsulation header and CIP header are removed. ● In accordance with the settings the data is encoded again and an RFC1006 header, TCP header, IP header and MAC header is added to the data. This Ethernet frame is transferred to the Siemens PLC. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

edec Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Dec, Were you able to establish the communication without using the fancy gizmo from INAT ? What have you done to make it work ? I am looking to do the same thing with a Clx and a S7 and I wanted to do it without any gateways between the two PLC's but my research were not too sucessful. Thanks ! EdeC

GJohn Posts: 112 Rating: (10)	Communicating via a Red Lion, DSPSX000, Data Station Plus, connected to ethernet is the easiest way I have found lately to communicate between S7-300 and AB.
