Thanks. Hello, Yes it's possible with SFC 46 "STP" (stop), you change the CPU to the STOP mode. SFC 46 "STP" (stop) can be found in stdlibs/ builtin Hope this helps.

Thanks. In program it is possible to STOP a CPU as Ayman mentioned by using SFC46.There are other ways to STOP it like careless programming like invalid BCD conversion error. Via STEP 7 , it is also possible to STOP the CPU via operating mode window ,select station and stroke "CTRL+I" Attachment 7.jpg (550 Downloads)

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (1000)	Ayman Elotaify Hello, As friends told, there are a lot of wways to stop the CPU via software. But the question is "Why would you like to stop the CPU?" The Standard solution must be, that an error do not stop the PLC but gives a usefull message and moves the process to a save state. But sometimes, you like to perform a CPU - Stop. One example: Declaration of very important constant - values, like LOG0, LOG1 or INTEGER 0. Last Network in OB1 may be a STOP if one of this constant values has changed. That is a nice thing during testing and comissioning to make sure, that some i.e. indirect adressing goes not to "wrong position" and destroy my constant values. Also, sometimes (rare but not impossible), it is usefull to stop if a major problem happens andyou like to force that PLC is restarting or powered up again.

I have seen twofunctionslast week in TIA Portal V13 to Stop and Start remote CPU. I am sorry If I do not have an access to my work PC to share these functions. This is not another new brilliant feature of TIA Portal V13 and/or 1200's/1500's, but instead has beenavailable for a long time in "classic" Step 7 for 300's and 400's alike in the form ofSFB19 "Start" and SFB20 "STOP" .

And let me add which SFB is used for cold, warm and hot restart: Initiating a Warm or Cold Restart on a Remote Device with SFB 19 "START" Changing a Remote Device to the STOP State with SFB 20 "STOP" Initiating a Hot Restart on a Remote Device with SFB 21 "RESUME"

I don't want to make this thread unnessarily long , but these discussions contain really new points for me. BCD conversion error is only an instance and possibility from many.It can be filtered by using error OBs.What about errors in program that are hidden and STOP a CPU due to exessive cycle time and OB80 can not filter that when it happens more than 2 times ! Good programmers develop complex logics and they are also prone to errors, but their experience help them to avoid such errors and remove potential cases.There are also hardware causes to STOP a CPU such as removing/inserting Flash cards in S7-400 and no one (even all error OBs) can avoid that. These are the cases happening all over the world and we read them here . It is only because of improper training and I also expect some in future. Have fun! Hamid Hosseini
