S7 Basic Timer

Vinny Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Hi Siemens Friends, I have a simple question. I need to run a timer when a Bit (for example M1.0) comes ON. When the bit goes OFF, I want to pause the timer. When the bit comes ON again, I want the timer to run the remaining time instead of starting again. The timer should be RESET only explicitly by another bit (say M1.1). I tried SE and SS timers, they didn't help and they were functioning exactly the same way. Any help is much appreciated.

Could you use pulsegen, AND gate, counter and compare operations to make such an animal? The pulsegen could be arranged such that it generates a pulse at regular intervals. The time interval depends on how accurate to need the timer to be. A J-K flip-flop with both J & K inputs set true will be a suitable pulsegen if placed in a cyclic OB (it will produce pulses at 1/2 the OB rate). This pulsegen could be linked through and AND gate, the output of which will go to the count up input of the counter. The count value of the counter could then be linked to a compre block to compare it with your required time limit, and the greater-than-or-equal output from the comapre block would be your conter expired signal. To pause / resume the timer you would set the other input of the AND block to 0 / 1 respectively. To reset the timer, you would use the reset input of the counter block.

Sigriest Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	This is good information. I was attempting to have this functionality in an SFC Type's Timers Characteristics, but to no avail. The RetOn-D does not perform this. It just pretends the timer_IO is on, once the timer starts. So this is the next best thing. Thanks for the information.
