I came to know that SIMATIC S7 is used for S7-series PLCs. But i want to know, why specifically number 7 is used to identify the PLC series? |

The first PLC from Siemens, the SIMATIC S3 came in 1973, the SIMATIC S5 in 1979 and the SIMATIC S7 in 1994 (found on https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simatic ) The numbers have no technical reason, it's marketing. |

Rumors have it that Siemens will first need to persuade Audi to give up their trademark on S9 |

Hi Kalaii, S7 is advanced version than S5. [It is Windows based.] Like version, 5 is advanced to 7. Exact reason is not known!! But "What is there in a name?" |
