Hello ,

I have a 12Mb SD CARD (6ES7954-0LE02-0AA0), that I can't access in windows 7 64 bit.

Windows 7 display a message "Hardware ID missing"

A 4Mb SD CARD can be accessed with no problem.

Tried to reinstall drives but still couldn't read the SD CARD.

Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

Do you use TIA Portal or SIMATIC MANAGER to access the sd card?

Did you format the SD card with Windows? (You must not do this!)

Recently, I had this issue.

I was unable to read a specific SIMATIC SD card on my PGM4, but was able to read my older one.

Same thing with my collegue PGM5.

I opened a support request and here it is:

Siemens USA tech support

I think just because they are not recognized on the PG computer, it doesn't mean they are bad. Put them in another non pg computer ( Dell etc ) and see if you see them with windows explorer there.

Put them in a 1500 cpu  and power up and from the display go to Information , then Memory Card and see if the 1500 recognizes the card.

I have seen cards where the PG doesn't see them but a Dell and the 1500 does.

So I had to buy a 10$ USB SD card reader and I am now able to read the SIMATIC SD card.

Strange but true.

If the S7-1500 is able to read it and I need a 10$ adapter, i can live with this.

 Yes, the same solution that im using .. it's very funny to have a Siemens branded laptop and having to buy an adapter to read the siemens sd card that is working fine even if plugged into a sh***y laptop ( old or new is indifferent )

Is not for the 10€ ( in italy ) of the adapter...is for the 5000+€ of the M4 that is not working as it should.

On my old laptop, I had to insert and hold the MC just right for it to read in my laptop's MC

Huggy_d1, the SD card is original the problem appear on fresh and empty SD just unpacked , but also on SD already inserted into S7 1500 and very important FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

And is not the SD card female slot on the PG M4 ( first i'm having this problem from 3 different M4 and not only in 1 of them ), i've already tried to push hard on the sd , or insert a paper to add thickness to have a better connection on the contact.
But still not working.

VERY VERY important is that If i insert and SD card with capacity greater then 256MB into all of the M4, there aren't any problem at all, i can read and write file just fine.

So this is related to a driver problem.....from what i've found it's the

"Texas instrument PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller"

That is not working properly anymore because of 1 update of windows 7, i've also noticed that if you set the BIOS of the M4 to use only UEFI and not dual boot option ( legacy ) the SD card isn't working at all.

So there is some problem into this controller driver.

I've tried different version of the controller driver modifing the .inf file of some HP or SONY drivers

2.0.0.0, 2.0.0.10 (the one that came with the drivers DVD of the M4), 2.0.0.18, 2.0.0.19, 2.0.0.20

and NON of this is working.

I even tried to update to windows 10 but the problem is still present, if you want to know i'm using STEP 7 w Safety, Wincc Flexible 2008 , SINAMICS STARTER, TIA PORTAL 13 and 14 (with all SP releases and update )  Wincc Advanced.

All of these software are working good and fluid as windows 7, at least for me.

Any IT geek as me that wish to help me to solve this i***t but very simple problem?

I've opened the request yesterday, hope that we can find the correct fix.

The support guy told me that there is this simple guide to follow:

But unfortunatly for me i've only have the SDA standard compliant SD Host controller driver and no other compatible hardware ( i've also tried to install every driver not compatible for the SD card reader, none is working).

If i reinstall windows from the Restore DVD that came with the package of the M4 after the restore is finished i find only the "SDA standard compliant SD Host controller driver" no other hardware as showed in the upper Link.

The support also told me that they will send my information to siemens in germany.

I will inform on this post to let also other user resolve their problem.

Finally after a lot of time i've figured out what to do.

First is necessary to restore the Legacy boot from the bios

Tthen use the MCC Control Center provided with the Dvd of the Field Pg to set the Sd card reader to smc compatibility

After that the boot can be setted to dual boot or UEFI if needed.

At least for me it worked like this.
