William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1160)	Hi there. Please see the attached image.. it is possible to connect your NPN device to the PLC. The only trouble with that is that all the input in the same field will convert. The alternative is to have a signal board clipped into the PLC. Then use the SB only for the NPN signalling. These SBs can even handle higher frequency rates (200kHz). Next alternative is to make your NPN hardware to function as PNP. You need to note the output type.. if it is "common collector" then you are in luck. It is possible to use a pull-up resistor. For common collector have a 3,300 ohm resistor (RE) connected between the encoder output (Vout) and 24Vdc (V+). The encoder output (Vout) is then also connected to the PLC input. Please go have a look at the hardware configuration for the CPU (example CPU1214).. CPU 1214C > PROPERTIES > DI14/DO10 > Digital inputs > Channel # The filter time is by default set to 6.4ms which relates to 156Hz. Set the filter that will allow the nominal running speed of your system, to be measured correctly. Does this help you? Solved? Greetings. w
