S7200 to S7300 Conversion

nandgate Posts: 319 Rating: (9)	Dear Experts, I want to convert my S7200 PLC (S7226) program to a S7300 Program. The size of the S7200 Program is 21KB (total subroutines no. 26 and data block size is 4kb) . After conversion what could be the size of the S7300 Program ? I want to know the size of the program cause it will help me in selecting the right S7300 PLC. With regards, Anand Phani Raj.

It is hard to say as S7-300 uses different instruction with different execution times and storage requirements. As it is allready said it should be enough for 64k MMC card, but if it is not so very important to order MMC now, you can make a conversion and then on the blocks you can check properties and you will see how much exactly memory do you need. You could order all hardware including PLC now, but MMC later, once you have converted. At least you can convert not all program, but somewhere in the middle you coud check block properties and have rough feeling about final memory requirements.

Is there any conversion tool or something that can make my work easier? No. It is quite different types of PLCs, so you need to do it by hand. Also, if we speak about converters as S7-200 to S7-1200 or Step5 to Step7 I can say that they can convert rather simple program. More complex programs conversion never goes good. You allways need to fix everything by hand and you have a risk that you misslook something. So better go for full manual conversion.

I have converted half of the program so far and the size is 40kb. I am expecting the total program to be around 100kb. Thank you for the support. With regards, Anand Phani Raj.

There is another option wich i used a lot, write the whole thing new. If you know the machine you can write much better program then. If you don't know the machine , better convert, but take care you can get timing problems, 300 is mutch faster in most cases. regards, Marcjan

With regards, Anand Phani Raj. If you want to estimate MMC card size look at the load memory, not work memory or total memory. MMC card size should be a little bit more than load memory size. Why it should be a little bit more ? Well if you want to make some online changes or download 1 or 2 blocks during commissioning time you will need little bit extra MMC cards space. You need that space when Step-7 want to compact it's contents.

SolutionFinder Posts: 559 Rating: (87)	Dear nandgate, For some simple boolen logic you can't copy the blocks from Microwin to STEP-7. So there is a very good idea/ You can convert whole backup in STL & copy the STL content of the blocks from Microwin to STEP-7. That is very easy & fastest way of conversion from s7-200 to s7-300
