S7ProSIM missing COM object

nemblej Posts: 34 Rating: (3)	Hello, I made a simple program in Visual Basic Express 2008 a while ago that includes communication with PLCSIM via the COM object. The application was working. Now I tried to open the same project but Visual Basic just keeps complaining that the S7PROSIM object is not available. Upon inspection I can't find neither S7ProSim nor anything similar in the COM Toolbox in Visual Basic (I also checked..the same in C# or C++). PLCSIM is working correctly by itself. I reinstalled the PLCSIM 5.4 with SP2 but nothing changed, there was still no COM object to be found. I even installed the new SP3 but still i can't see the appropriate COM object. I tried unregistering and re-registering the "s7wspsmx.dll" with regsvr32 but it changed nothing. Can anyone help me with a suggestion what might be wrong or where and what I should check ? Installed software: XP SP2, S75.4 SP5, PLCSIM 5.4 SP3.

SSE Posts: 45 Rating: (8)	Hi, try to find out, whether S7ProSim COM object is installed: - launch regedit.exe from command prompt - search S7ProSim. If installed, there must be non-empty folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{83CC0D83-FEDA-11D1-BE76-0060B06816CF} or somethind like this

SSE Posts: 45 Rating: (8)	I have the same registry entries and all works fine. Maybe you use wrong COM object name when connecting to S7ProSim. Here's the manual from SIEMENS (if you have not seen it before) in attachment. I used quite different COM object name from non-basic applications - "S7wspsmx.S7ProSim.1" Attachment s7wspscb.pdf (338 Downloads)

nemblej Posts: 34 Rating: (3)	Thanks for the pdf, but this is the same pdf that's located in the installation directory of PLCSIM is it not ? I thought that mybe somehow the name of the COM object changed too, unfortunately that's not the case. There are several S7 objects in the COM list (including the various controls etc.), however absolutely nothing even includes or looks like "sim".

SSE Posts: 45 Rating: (8)	Document is the same all right. I have used S7ProSim with S7-PLCSIM V5.3 SP1, V5.4 SP2, all time with the same settings. If it will help you, for S7ProSim interface in C language I used following expression: ProSimOle = CreateOleObject("S7wspsmx.S7ProSim.1");

Control, server, whichever it is, it's located in "COM components" list in Visual Studio (at least that's where it should be) and there are no other locations for including anything COM-related. Maybe I'm getting this the wrong way. Maybe it's the Visual Studio that's not seing the COM component not the other way around. Do you know of any other way of....let's say displaying the list of available COM servers / components ? (One that does not include the Visual Studio...a "COM-lister" if yu will ?)

nemblej Posts: 34 Rating: (3)	This tool is very useful indeed. I seem to have the same; could you check to see if your entries match ? I attached a mash-up of three pictures. The topmost is the "class" registry entry. The middle one is what seems to be the Typelib entry and the lower most is something ...strange. What appears to be a garbled entry for Protool just after the ProSim entry..meybe its correlated. I'll check this in detail. Attachment OleView.jpg (320 Downloads)
