Hello, To the meaning of SIL levels: ====================== SILs are defined in the IEC61508 standard for functional safety in electrical electronic/programmable electronic safety-related systems. The basic idea of the measures taken to guaranty the functional safety is to detect as far as possible dangerous failures (= failures that put the safety in question) even before they have a negative impact on the safety. To evaluate how far this purpose is reached, statistical values (probability)are used that express the residual risk of having a dangerous failure. The SIL value can range from 1 (the lowest integrity) to 4 (the highest integrity). Further more, the safety system is separated into two modes of operation: low demand mode of operation, which gives a probability of failure to perform the designed function on demand, and high demand, or continuous, mode of operation which measures the probability of failure per hour. In the evaluation of a safety function, not only the involved PLC is considered, but also the sensors and the actuators used. To Simatic Safety Systems ===================== It would be to long to list here all the specifics of Simatic failsafe PLCs. Have a look to the following manual that in chapter 1 gives an overview of failsafe systems, in chapter 2 configurations and help for selection, .... http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/12490443 |

I don't have much experience with Fail Safe systems but I 'm sharing what I know.

HI i would like to share my sil knowleadge. Safety Integrity level is define as a relative level of risk reduction provided by safety function, or specific targat level of risk reduction. it is a IEC 61508 & 61511 Standard.sil level is define as probility of failer, if more failer then more safety is required, so sil level will increase from 1 to 5. Semins has design three kind of safety system a) Distributed safety b) F cpu c) FH CPU case 1) SIL2 IN CASE SIL 2 general we use to take a one signal from process or machine. |
We are working on a new user interface with better overview and more relevance.
To explore the new Forum, you can follow the textbox in the right column, which will lead you to the corresponding page in the new Forum. Alternatively, you can start from the main page by following this link:
