SCALANCE W734-1 WiFi client with Ubuntu does not obtain DHCP IP address

andrew.eandm Member Joined: 2/20/2014 Last visit: 1/25/2021 Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	We have a SCALANCE W734-1 client connected to a PC by an Ethernet cable. The W734-1 is configured and working on WiFi i.e. in Windows the PC automatically gets a DHCP IP address, and the network is accessible. The PC is dual boot Windows/Ubuntu. When we boot into Ubuntu, the PC will not get an IP addressvis DHCP. The DHCP request times out. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with a problem like this? If we fix the IP address in Ubuntu, the network is accessible. A fixed IP address is not a viable solution. This is a volume OEM application, and if the W734-1 must work with Ubuntu and DHCP. Other clients under trial do not have this problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: It is working with Windows? There should be no difference because the WLAN part of your network is transparent for the communication ... (if you got the right configuration )

Siemens USA support has duplicated the problem, and yikes, the W734-1 client does not work with Ubuntu. It's a mobile robotics application, and Ubuntu is what the industry uses. Competitive clients are working OK. Yes it works in Windows on the exact same PC (dual boot Windows/Ubuntu). The router is a Linksys EA9200. We tried Adopt own MAC. The configuration is close to factory default (we have reset twice), only the particular WiFI network security added. Any further ideas welcome!

Any further ideas welcome! do you have only on PC behind the W734-1? normaly WLAN is one AP, some clients. but only one MAC per Client. Siemens has the layer 2 Tunnel to be able to have more MAC addresses behind the client. I think with layer 2 tunnel -> no problems with the DHCP, other communication. if you are using a non-Siemens Access point you have left 1 choise: own mac or adopt another mac. there you should use the MAC address of your PC. That is, in my opinion, the right configuration. which firmware are you using? with Ubuntu and a wired connection there are no problems? have you already sniffed the DHCP packages? are the packages from the DHCP server getting to your PC?

The test setup is a laptop, RJ45 to the W734-1, and the W734-1 is on WiFi. We tried Own MAC and Adopt another MAC. It works with Ubuntu when wired to the router. Firmware v04.00.01. We have not been to the packet sniffing level yet. We cannot sink too much of the development team's time on this, since there are other clients which work out of the box. Hoping that now Siemens USA support reproduced the problem, it will be resolved quickly.

Guess that can be your problem (as there was also a difference between Ubuntu and Microsoft). Please install the latest firmware and give it a try. I would really appreciate your feedback.
