Dear Jdaher IEC61850 does notrefer only to the protocol, but also for enviromental conditions and other items. Take a look at RuggedCom site to see more informations about a switch which is certified by IEC61850 http://www.ruggedcom.com/index/kema_certified/ On the protocol level - which I think you are interested - switches compatible with IEC61850 are capable of distinguishing GOOSE (Generic Oriented Object Substation Event) messages and priorizing them. Evenwith intense ethernet traffic when everything in the network is slow, this can be done with softwaressuch asIP Load - when a GOOSE message is sent by one device you don't see any delay for this message, even passing through several switches. The same test done with a normal switch or hub you have to wait some time to receive the GOOSE message. GOOSE messagesare used to exchange information between devices (i.e.: protection relays)and they must have priority over other messages in the network. |
