SCALANCE X300 Access Control List Learning

We have a network with a whole bunch of Scalance switches set up and we want to make it secure so that a random guy can not just walk in and plug a cable into one of our switches and connect to our network... So I can set up every single port manually, but then there is the Access Control List Learning function, and from what I understand all I need to do is click "Start learning" and it should change all learned MAC adresses into static, right? But it doesn't... In fact it seems like nothing at all happens!? Do I need to do anything more or is the function not properly implemented in the switch firmware? Or does it work in a way different from what i expect? No matter how long I leave it in learning mode, it never turns the addresses into static! Pittiplatsch Posts: 1368 Rating: (128)	Hello Brian, do you recognize the note in the manual for the Access Control Learning? Here it is: Note If the Access Control function was already active on individual ports prior to the automatic learning phase, no addresses will be learned on these ports. This makes it possible to restrict learning to certain ports. If you do not want a port to learn addresses, simply enable access control on it before enabling learning. Hi again and thank you so far! The problem persists even with Access Control turned of for the individual ports.

Going through the network though, I have discovered that on some switches learning works but on most it does not!
Scalance X324: No problem
Scalance X308: On one switch it works, the rest it does not work (so far)!

The switch on which learning does work:

Firmware:

V3.5.1

Boot Software:

V3.27.5

A switch on which learning does not work:

Firmware:

V3.7.0

Boot Software:

V4.0.1

Pittiplatsch Posts: 1368 Rating: (128)	Hello Brian, do you upgrade the non-working SCALANCE X308 to FW 3.7? If yes, does the SCALANCE X308 had Bootloader 3.27.5 before? Then you must note the following point: Please use this Firmware 3.7.0 only with Bootloader Version higher than V3.27.5! If the Bootloader Version is lower than or equal to V3.27.5, please update to the Firmware Version V3.7.2! Otherwise, please update your non-working SCALANCE X308 to FW 3.7.2 http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/de/61615844 Hope, it solves your problem...

Brian Lund Lindpro Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	I did not change the firmware on any of the switches, I am not sure if one of my co-workers have done so in the past, maybe, maybe not. The switches have all been bought at different times over the last years, so they have many different firmware versions! I upgraded the switch to firmware 3.7.2 and now learning works it seems! I will do so if I encounter another switch with the same problem, thank you!
