Good day,

I am working on Tia Portal V14 and using a Scalance XB208 Managed switch (P/N: 6GK5208-0BA00-2AB2)

I am getting an error on my module saying that the online and offline module descriptions differ, and that there is a difference between the firmware versions.

Now yes, there is a difference between the online/offline firmware versions, but I am cuurently sitting with to issues:

1) Nowhere can I find the firmware version that I need - the configured firmware version is V2.0, but the online version is only V1.2

2) I can't seem to find the function on TIA where to update the firmware version.

Can someone please give me some assistance with this? I'm sure there is a simple solution, but I've been struggling with it for quite a bit and I don't want to waste any more time on this.

The only other solution which Siemens provides is that the hardware is faulty and must be replaced. Everything seems to be working fine, so I doubt its faulty hardware.

Nowhere on the Web Based Management I can find an option to update/download the firmware. The only info I can find in the operating instructions to download firmware is using TFTP.

Is the only option to download firmware via TFTP?

There is one step in this procedure which I'm not too sure about (see text from operating instructions below, steps 4 to 6):

4. Release the button as long as the red error LED is still flashing..

Note This time only lasts a few seconds. The bootloader of the device waits in this status for a new firmware file that you can download by TFTP.

5. Connect a PC to port "P1" via an Ethernet cable.

6. Assign an IP address to the device using DHCP or the Primary Setup Tool.

First of all, when I first assigned the IP I did so using TIA Portal, but it usually takes me a bit longer than "a few seconds". I am still waiting for Siemens to authenticate my registration so I can download the firmware file and test this myself, but is there enough time to complete steps 4 to 6 after resetting of the device?

My knowledge of networks and network devices is a bit limited outside of TIA. Can someone also explain a bit more how to assign an IP via DHCP and/or the PST?

I don't have a XB208, But XB206-2 but the interface Should be the same. You should be able to upgrade throug the WEB interface and HTTP. You need to give the Switch an IP address at first. Afterwards Choose System-> Load an Save

You are completely right, it is similar with the Scalance XB208.

I missed that section of the WEB interface when I looked the first time, I apologise.

The solution to this thread is therefore as follows:

1) Assign IP to device (I simply used to TIA Portal to assign IP an device name)

2) Connect to device via WEB browser using assigned IP as in (1)

3) Load new firmware by following path: "System" -> "Load & Save" function -> "Firmware Update" -> "Load"
