SCL FB Input Struct Pointer

Bluestream Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi experts, We have develop a FB in SCL that process many calculations. The FB receive many parameters in STRUCT type (UDT). Of what I can see, when passing a UDT in VAR_INPUT, all the data seem to be copied inside the FB, therefore increasing a-lot the size of it. Is there any way to declare a POINTER of a UDT and simply use the orignial values, the address being passed in parameter? For exemple: FUNCTION_BLOCK FB502 VAR_INPUT BAOM : UDT_BAO_R; BAOW: UDT_BAO_R; END_VAR These UDT_BAO_R are really huge and it would be great not to copy it inside the block itself. Many thanks

You could use an ANY pointer as the input and connect the UDT to that. You can then manipulate the ANY pointer to access the data in the UDT in the calling block without having to copy it in your block.

Bluestream Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	That's right. The UDT is declared in another FB (DB). We pass in parameter the data itself to the calculation FB. I am trying to find the correct syntax to do a ANY pointer, but unsuccessful. The compiler always need a variable name as a reference, meaning I still have to declare the Input Variable and then link the ANY pointer. I mean, when I declare VAR_INPUT pBAOM : ANY; END_VAR How the compiler knows it is linked to UDT_BAO_R, so I can access inside data?

Oreca Platinum Member Joined: 3/14/2008 Last visit: 3/29/2023 Posts: 1913 Rating: (834)	What you can do is the following: - Make an in_out variable of type udt -Create a db with a variable of type: :ARRAY[1..100] OF UDTxx; Each time you call the SCL code (compiled as fb block), you can select the in_out variable and direct it to the dv where you created the array. You can now say if you want array 1,2,3 etc... Is this what you mean? You can process the variables in the udt like this: DRIVE :UDT; IF DRIVE.MAN_ON THEN manual_on :=TRUE; END_IF; where MAN_ON is a variable in the UDT and manual_on is a output.
