Sorry, I guess I was too brief. Clarification: I use Web server on s7-1200 as frontend SCADA. To update information on my web pages in realtime I use asyncronous JS requests to PLC. I have a special page on my PLC just for AJAX requests, and, technically, it's JSON markup and not HTML. The problem is that I can fetch groups of single vars, but not structs or arrays, because I have to serialize them first. In PHP or JS I have a ton of tools to do that, but SCL seems to be very limited in its abilities. In PHP you can use loops and conditions within html document to generate html content dynamically and I'm trying to achieve the same with SCL.

In PHP I can do something like:

I only can use single vars but I would like to be able to serialize DB's, Structs and arrays.

the case you describe did not work on the PLC webserver, and it also do not support a server site scripting language like PHP or soemthing like that.

You just can arrange your plc tags and load them in the wepage, after that its just posible to use jave to rework all the information by using javascript

If you want to use diffrent Tags, you just can use "serialize" which creates a byte array out of a datablock or structure, after that you can load the byte array into your webpage.

If you want to load a bytearray with just one line of code, you need at leat to us a S7-1500 PLC, using a 1200 hase the need to load all single tags into your json as you allready mentioned.

SCL has nothing to do with web programming AND a PLC is mainly used for automating an industrial plant and not for webdesign, for me the webserver is a nice add on but not the mainpart of a plc :-)

Is there any particular reason
why you do not have a PC application
that is directly speaking to the PLC,
instead of going through the web server first?

For cost-saving reasons in my (highly experimental) IoT project I use Linux-based PC with OpenVPN for remote access, service and control. On that PC I run web-server that works as front-end SCADA, and also executes scheduled tasks for data logging etc. (I also use WordPress engine for user control) Data exchange between PLC and PC is by means of Ajax POST/GET requests initiated by web-server. No Profinet links or OPC servers are employed in this case. 

I've been supervising this machine for over two weeks now, and I am very happy with the performance. The cool thing is that I can access SCADA on any device using my VPN/login credentials from virtually anywhere, rather than having fixed HMI screen somewhere on the wall.

I would love to know more.
