Script takes to long to run

Matthew Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	We are using two seperate scripts (VB) to pull data from the same archive. One script averages the data for every hour of the day, the other does so for every minute of the day. The latter takes about 2+ hours to run. This causes WinCC to become unresponsive, screen navigation lags, screen updates lag, basically it is like the computer has frozen. We would like to possibly take this script and use it as a macro in Excel.. When we tried this there were multiple issues with the various functions with the VBscripting for Excel. Are there other methods to speed up the script or ways to trim it down so it runs faster? We have commented out the various HMI.trace statments to reduce the error handleing, but this does not seem to be the problem. I can attach the script if required. Thanks.

Matthew Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	In the zip file are three .BMO files The file PlantTelemetry.BMO takes about 2 hours to run through to completetion. The idea is to pull the archived data which is stored at 1 minute intervals and write this data to an excel spreadsheet for every minute of the day. I have tried a few things but have not been able to improve the run time of the script. The file HourSummary.BMO runs in about 5 minutes or less and takes the data from the same archive and averages the data for every hour of the day and writes it into an excel spreadsheet. From what I can tell it appears that the PlantTelemetry script is looping through all the records 60 times and calculating the average, I just need it to pull the respective tag value from the archive and put into the excel spreadsheet. I did not write these scripts, so I am debugging someone else's work and they are not available for further assistance. Let me know what you find. The assistance is greatly appreciated. Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi, In your "hoursummary.bmo" you open and close the DB connection al lot of times. I can imagine that this takes a lot of time. Options: 1. try to open 1 connection and close after the script is finished completely - try putting in traces with time printing, so you can see where the delay is. (hmiruntime.trace "at position x at time" & now 2. use DTS instead of doing all the work in wincc. - DTS is a package that you can execute within the enterprise anager itself. - enough to find on the internet. with regards, Ikkezelf

Matthew Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Will look into the opening and closing of the connection, though the hoursummary.bmo script runs in about 3 to 5 minutes. There is a seperate button on a screen for running each script - i.e. the operator can chose which one to run. In the planttelemetry.bmo script,I turned off the various hmiruntime.trace statements to reduce the overhead of printing info to the screen since the script runs. Since it takes the planttelemetry.bmo script 2 hours to run I am more concerned that there is problem in that script in how it is accessing the data in the archive. There isa hmiruntime.trace statement: HMIRuntime.Trace("GetMinuteSummary: Cnt=" & CStr(iAveCnt) & " Ave=" & CStr(fAveVal) & _ " Min=" & CStr(fMinVal) & " Max=" & CStr(fMaxVal) & vbNewLine) When the script runs, this info is shown on the screen and the cnt value = 60. It appears the script is running through each record 60 times and finding the average and doing this for all 1440 minutes of the dat even though there is only 1 record per minute Will also look intoDTS. Any other insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
