Hello bermuda; You can Use Profibus-DP to connect your sensors if: 1) these sensors support a Profibus-DP slave interface. What make/model of sensors are you planning to use? For example, Siemens Siprotec protection relays are often used in substation automation projects, and with proper selection ypou can request a profibus interface on them. 2) these sensors can transfer their data through analog/digital channels to a local Profibus-DP slave, such as a ET 200S or ET 200M station (many manufacturers besides Siemens provide such interface stations, Wago, Beckhoff...). If you are planning to run the Profibus cables outdoors, or ner power lines, then you should think of using Fiber Optic lines. OLMs (Optical Link Modules) can be used to connect the diiferent nodes (working over copper) to a FO network, either multimode or monomode fibers, plastic or glass, depending on the distances to be reached.. FO networks are immune to electromagnetic influences and very reliable. Cost of the cables is not so expensive compared to copper nowadays, and the reliabity is worth it. See the following manuals for basic data on OLMs andtopologies supported: https://eb.automation.siemens.com/goos/catalog/Pages/ProductData.aspx?catalogRegion=GB&language=en&nodeid=9300043&tree=CatalogTree®ionUrl=%2fuk#activetab=product& SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS Optical Link Module OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / P12 V4.0 OLM / P22 V4.0 OLM / P11 V4.0 OLM / G12 V4.0 OLM / G22 V4.0 OLM / G12-EEC V4.0 Operating Instructions SIMATIC NET Twisted-Pair and Fiber-Optic Networks Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

hello dchartier thanks for your answer we use many data communicationphysical links. one of them is fiber optic. i'd like to use wireless communication between stations, such as uhf/vhf bands or any possible ways. i attached my required sytem. i said that in another topic in this forum. our friend j_bell suggested a system to me i'm studing around that. but if you have another suggestion with more detalesplease say to me. good luck |
