I also use a Samba USB GSM/GPRS modem to send SMS's from WinCC. I do this by using the msComm control and send all the modem commands required down the comm control.

The disadvantage with this is that the control has to be on the active WinCC page to send, I have not worked out how to do it from a global script or if if it possible from a global script.I use a tag to trigger the sending.

System.IO.Ports.SerialPort class as mscomm is not wholly supported or available any more - essentially does the same job though. This sorts the SMS messaging, borrowing the code structure from above.

For email, there is also a class System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient - which essentially does the same as the above script, but within a .net environment which keeps things neat.

The only issue that we have had in testing was that trying to rapidfire emails to different addresses creates an InvalidOperationException. This is easy to trap in visual studio, but our work arround just means that we add numerous addresses to the To field!

The application also accesses the My.Application.CommandLineArgs string collection, to which is sent a simple integer to set the message number to be sent. This is accessed from winCC by the simple script from the help file:-
