SFC-type problem (timers) PCS7 V8.0 update 1

During adding name of timer (Timer1) Interface Error appears "The name "ES@@COM1" entered contains illegal characters". I'm using PCS7 V8.0 update 1. How do I solve this problem?

RugbyGuy Silver Expert Joined: 1/15/2009 Last visit: 4/19/2024 Posts: 316 Rating: (40)	Hi Wisnia33, I tried duplicating your problem, created new SFC Type, add a Timer characteristic named 'Timer1' and was successfull without errors. I would be worried that the PCS7 install is not healthy, perhaps a reload to fix.

dmertens Bronze Member Joined: 10/3/2007 Last visit: 6/25/2024 Posts: 188 Rating: (34)	Hi Wisnia, You should not install updates outside of PCS7 on a PCS7 system unless they have been explicitely marked as also valid for PCS7. Your problem seems to be a perfect example why this is so, it updates CFC but does not update other packages that may be tightly integrated with CFC, like SFC. Therefor I would suggest you deinstall the CFC and reinstall it from the PCS7 DVD. Wait for the next PCS7 update or service pack, it will contain all valid updates without breaking other packages. What is also not very good is that you cannot run the SIMATIC Manager New Project Wizard. Although it does state per the compatibility matrix that this is supportedhttp://support.automation.siemens.com/US/view/en/2334224, at the moment I would revert back to CFC 8.0 upd1 until something is fixed with the current version, or wait for the release of PCS7 V8.0 SP1 (not sure when that is). But it appears the issue is larger than just SFC editor.

wisnia33 Regular Member Joined: 3/20/2009 Last visit: 6/27/2023 Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hi If you have already installed CFC SP1 and your project was converted to new one and you cannot change it back by uninstaling this SP, the temporary solution can be made in the following way: You need to create SFC type with at least one timer using PCS7 without CFC SP1 and retrieve this project in PCS7 with CFC SP1. After convertion you need to copy this converted SFC-type to your actual project then adding next timers in this SFC-type works. If you need the next SFC-type you have to copy actual SFC-type (you cannot use command "insert new SFC-type"). It looks like the PCS7 with CFC SP1 has only problem to create the first timer. If you have SFC-type with one timer adding the next timers is not a problem.

David, your comments are absolutely correct in general, but not applicable in this instance since CFC v8.0+SP1 has been officially approved for use in PCS 7 v8.0+Upd1. I also have this issue, after updating to CFC v8.0+SP1.
