Share Samples and Tips Application for PLC S7-1200 & TIA PORTAL

There are things that pros do and include in their code that are not very technical and at the same time are quite variable. I mentioned this a while back in reference to a code by William_B and the part that immediately attracted my attention was not the code but the way the tags were organized. And as simple as that was it such a time saver. So please share your code (that's not proprietary) and let us learn for the pros, We will see things in your code that you don't see. Thanks a lot guys.

Kal, sharing code is GREAT and good but it has some side effects that are not unrelevant: 1) Newbies are not stimulated, so they start asking "how can I set a Bit ?" , "How do I open Hardware Configuration?". 2) Technical code is shared, so your know how is shared too. PLC programs might be advanced but there are some other environments like Simotion where many many things requires DAYS of testing and sharing them where people can copy and use them in 1 minute is sad... So sometimes people prefer to NOT share nothing because they are jealous. 3) Sharing the Method is one of the best thing, like you said you learn the variable organization. One other may learn the usage of FSM which is the most powerful thing of automation. Others may learn indirect addressing which is useful too... This forum is great, so yes, share share share

Some people are lazy, newbies or experienced, and we don't want their laziness to deprive those of us who genuinely want to learn and excel in this field. I've had very good experience learning electronics by being fortunate to have an online friend who not only shared his wealth of knowledge but helped me design circuitry that must've taken him hours to do and contrary to the objectors on that site, who put forward the "lazy" argument, he persisted and my learning curve was shortened considerably as a result. I dissected every circuit he designed and then put it together and tested it then modified it and posted for everyone to critique (that's also a valuable tool-to have one's work critiqued) . The internet has forever changed the world and now sharing and collaboration has proven to be the way of the future. So I echo you sentiment, "This forum is great, so yes, share share share" ......and it's made so because of its members.

Accept the fact: There is no advantage for a "pro" to invest his time and resources to teach you. Except this fact. The exception is if you work for that "pro", then the efforts have a chance to pay back. Such investment is also wasted when there is little natural talent and less self driving effort from the student. What you are hoping for is covered by apprenticeship. The real-time mentoring cannot be substituted by online learning. Yes online learning builds technical know-how, but experience goes the steps beyond helping to make you be field ready. The mentoring process is not about creating a clone. It is about having the student discover the good and bad in himself while trying to have him adapt skills (read: customize) to better himself. Getting the student to understand himself within his working environment as important as technical know-how. Mentored apprenticeship does not make a "pro" .. it just helps to get there sooner. I make no claim to "pro" status. But know that what I know about TIA Portal and S7-1200, I know from self study. This journey started the first moment my user logged in on this forum. Even before that I have had no senior to mentor me.. only hard knocks of experience. It is continuous hard work and experience that make a "pro"; understanding the technical field but also knowing one's self in relation to solving problems. I part with you with this thought... Have a method to brake down your project in smaller portions and keep it that way as far possible. This make it possible for your mind to focus better. Without this you will be overwhelmed by details. Grouping of code, commentary, variables, UDT, .. helps in this quest. But you have to discover what method works for you. Best regards, William
