Shift register and m8 flag

I used the automatic shift register example to go through message texts, But as soon as I add M8 in trigger, in order to display a text at startup, Shift register identifies two signals so it activates two bits at the same time. How can I activate one signal?

Retentivity does not start at the first page and also has its problems, in you reset it while register is at high, it stays high thus injecting another high. 

I've read the manual, but can you explain like I'm five what shift register index and what shift register bit at output connector stands for?

Also, how can you have bits active at startup, like the manual?

Also, why text messages don't work after 3-4 power reset?

Ps from what I've seen the hardware does not start automatically after a power failure. Or I am doing sth wrong So what's the point in adding power failures in the simulation?
