Hello ryan; After looking at the manual you have provided, it would seem Shihlin is expecting you to communicate to the MPI port of the Siemens PLC, using a PC adapter connected to a COM Port on your computer. The PC adapter transforms the RS-232 signal from the PC to RS-485 (MPI standard) and also acts as a gateway to MPI. It should be running at 38.4 kB, with odd parity (see the attached comiplation of your document). PC adapter v. 5.1, latest model manufactured: 6ES7972-0CA23-0XA0 Does your computer have a Com Port (most modern PCs do not)? If not, you would need a PC Adapter USB: 6GK1571-0BA00-0AA0. Once your PC adapter is selected and connected, you will have to select it in the "Set the PC/PG interface" so the PC adapter becomes the connection between youyr PC and the PLC, over MPI. See the following setup information for the USB model: What should you watch out for when installing the USB PC adapter? For information on the standard PC adapter connections, pinouts and more, please look at the following document: PC_TS Adapter - Quick Reference Guide.pdf Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
