Should I keep of on updating my TIA?

A discussion was going on about TIA, and the issues people have using it. V11 seems to be prefered over V12. I was wondering if I should wait with updating to V12..

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1198)	Ton Verra, your comment does loose its punch now that it is not part of the original thread. As a sideline commentary.. updating TIA to V12 is going to hurt. The hardware/software specifications are listed as: TIA version 11 service pack 2.. [link] against TIA version 12.. [link] Windows 8 is not supported and even Windows 7 does not always support all the software we need to run. There is coming a day that we will have to be carrying 2 PCs.. maybe.

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1198)	[discussion / opinions] ..from what I have heard, it does not help too much to have a "bigger" PC. Granted the motor car manufacturer upgraded an apprentice to run TIA V11. But it was the best money could buy (..for a work hourse PC.. not gaming PC). With the PC specs given I could be running Photoshop products comfortably processing images from those new Nikon dSLR cameras with the 24MP sensors. (As if I could afford THAT to start with.) If you reduce the field of PCs that is deemed compatible it should make it easier to debug as you have less variations of OS and PC hardware to keep in consideration. I have a feeling that TIA's biggest enemy is however that older Siemens softwares are installed on the same PC. Coding for communication and PC memory clashes with each other. Memory issues (I guess) also originates from the software that is managing the licensing. If you are running TIA.. only TIA and no licensing, there should be a lot less issues. Personally I have much respect for what the software designers are trying to do. They have the right aim, but they had a late start when comparing to the other players in this game. That means they probably are cutting corners and probably using the DotNet environment.. which in itself can be a beast. Okay.. there is much speculation on my part. I think however what frustrates us all the most.. coding PLCs can be difficult enough without the design software being in the way. PLUS we feel hopeless to do something about it. I'm just glad I did not climb aboard to TIA before version 11. That advise I got from a local Siemens employee. Maybe if we refuse to buy in on TIA, Siemens will take the situation even more seriously. But we do like our new play things (S7-1200 and S7-1500). I wonder if it would help if TIA became a community driven project? If the motion control is already community driven (safety to follow).. why not TIA?

So I receive both updates for Step7 Pro and TIA, so I naturally have to try it out :). So far I have only needed it to program and simulate (not directly ofcourse) a 1200 series PLC. I'm glad I can keep to my trusty rusty Step 7

I'm glad I can keep to my trusty rusty Step 7 My friend, The 1200 is a gem. For me the motion blocks is special. Don't just do academical things with it - use it. You will be glad you did. PS: Even the S5 has a special place in my heart. But each system has something that makes it special. w
