Siemens 840D Problem connecting to NC/PLC

James N. Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello everyone, Some background: I run a Deckel Maho DMP-60S CNC milling center that has an 840D control system. It is bar fed and runs fully automated during lights out operation. The machine was running fine this morning when I came in, but it needed hydraulic fluid. I removed the tool from the spindle and jogged the axis to a friendly shutdown position, and switched off the machine to proceed with hydraulic maintenance. Upon starting the machine however, I got a "Run time error 285: Foreign application won't perform DDE method or operation" during the "area machine being loaded" sequence of the initialization. It flashes that error in a windows XP dialog box briefly, and then the HMI interface comes up with error code 120202:Wait for connection to NC/PLC I have never seen anything like this before, and I can't figure out how to locate the cause of this error. I have tried starting the machine in service mode and looking through the logs in the mmc but it hasn't given me much indication of whats going wrong. Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed with this?

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, Is the nck and plc up and running ? check the lights and seven seg display on the 840D card. Unfortunately I'm sure you know that Deckel Maho are the most unhelpfull company in the world to deal with and are only interested in sending out a service engineer costing thousands. As well as that their software is 10 times more complex than it needs to be. If the nck/plc is running OK then you probably have a disk problem that needs reloading. Pee

Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the response, I beleive they are both up and running (the top green LED is lit on each side?), however I have nothing but the small red blip on the 7 segment display. I was just digging through other topics and came across mention of the display and LED's though I still need to figure out exactly what they mean. I have a red LED lit up on the left column and the whole entire right column is illuminated. I have attached a picture to better illustrate what I have got going on here. I will keep my comments about DMG service for another topic, but having a little technical computer background I'm trying to take a crack at this on my own. I'm glad to have your support! Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	After digging around on the internet I came across documentation in the Siemens 840D Configuring Manual NCU - 03.06 edition Page 4-55 which shows H2 (right row) T/DP is illuminated solid, indicating PLC-DP status error. (bus short circuit, no token circulation). Also, the Sinumerik 840D Start-Up Guide 03/2006 page 5-41 describes the function of the 7 segment display, and the "blip" I mentioned is a dot which indicates and error was identified in the cyclical operation. The documentation states using the NCK general reset method may fix this but I am not sure if I have any plc or nc data archives. Is this indicating I have lost my PLC/NC data? Can I safely recover the machine if I move the s3 startup switch into the #1 position and load "default values"? Can I push the S1 (reset button) to try to recover without loss of data? Any other suggestions or troubleshooting that can be done? Let me know if you need any more details regarding the specific hardware I am working with.

Try clearing NC and PLC through s3 and s4 rotaty switch. after doing you should load your backups back( i.e when machine wasin working condition you should have take the backup) load that..... i am attaching the link were you can find the clearing steps of NC-PLC clearing steps...hope this will be useful and come out of your problem. /tf/WW/en/Posts/60254#top Regards, Prakash

James N. Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Success! We were able to initialize the system after a reset of the NCK. The 7 segment display is the determining factor in this scenario. The LED's mean virtually nothing unless the NCK has initialized and has a 6 displayed. We have restored a NCK backup and I got the machine to reference itself so it seems to be working properly. The tool changer is out of sequence, however but that's a totally different issue! Thanks for helping me out on this, I appreciate it.
