Siemens S7 1200 and 5x V90 performance - inquiry

Are you trying coordinated motion (like robotic axes), or is every motion controlled device acting mostly one at a time, or are they all acting all the time and independently?

I have

1x PLC S7-1200

1x G120

2x ETH200

5x V90

So it should all be compatible and go as it should?

Which device or is it random which device goes offline?  Are you using the recommended cable and routing practices?  What exactly is showing in the PLC diagnostics buffer?  What about the drive(s) which fail, what errors are being reported?

Is the PLC entering a stop state?

They do not act at the same time. It is essentially a sheet metal loader and unloader. Where one axis always works.

Traveling the axle with the loader -> lowering -> extend or retract the forks.

There is an accidental failure of the profinet.

If I understand correctly, the PN cabling start at the PLC, to the G120, and then on to the 5 V90's.  Is that correct?

I am assuming this because the V90's go offline when the G120 loses communications with the PLC.

If this is true, as a test, place the G120 as the last device on the PN connection, or temporarily split the PN network up using a network switch proven to work well in industrial enclosures and pass PN related traffic.

Once split, on port 1 of the switch, PLC.  Port 2 put the G120.  Port 3 put start of the 5 x V90 PN daisy-chain.

This is just for testing purposes (am assuming this is not already installed at a customer facility and you are simply trying to get in-house development & commissioning done completed).

The test should tell you whether the PLC drops the G120, or the G120 drops the V90's.

If the PLC drops the G120, it is being requested to update the PN for the G120 too fast.

If you want to avoid all the testing and simply slow down the profinet update rate down (clock).

If the G120 just runs a fan or pump at some % that varies slowly, you can set the g120 clock to update at a very high number like 32ms.

If your V90s allow a very low number, but can get by with a larger clock update rate, please slow it down with a larger clock update rate.

The default values may not perform very well with that many V90s on an s7-1200.  You need to balance the process needs with the processing capacity.

Slow down what you can as much as you can, and then see where you are.  If the performance loss is still too great despite no longer dropping connections, you should jump to s7-1500.

However, if this is a one-time machine design never to be repeated, you may choose to just skip trying to fine tune everything so it will run on an s7-1200 and just jump to the s7-1500 and get done faster.

We use recommended cable procedures and routing according to manuals. If the profinet fails, communication is completely lost and we have to restart the PLC -> where all V90s show a communication error with the frequency converter. No errors except communication error.

We have just redesigned all SIEMES cables and all lengths have been adhered to.
