Simatic NET OPC used to communicate with third party software

mjadk Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi I have a problem regarding that I would like to use the Simatic Net OPC to communicate with a PC that will send data on some kind of interface programmed in eg. C. My problem is to figure out what kind of interfaces that is available and what the posibilities are. As far as I can see the communication forms available are: -ISO on TCP, Fetch/Write -XMLDA I am not sure that this covers the communication forms available. And can a CP1613 card be used for the communication ? Summary: Need the following: -Communication posibilities from another PC to make data available for the Simatic Net OPC -Information regarding the communication posibilities in pdf or other format -Hints, examples etc. that is available for this task Best regards Mjadk

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hi, what you need is DCOM by Microsoft. This allows you to run programs on remote PCs, programs like the OPC Server. To get this to work you need DCOM to get a better idea visit the OPC Foundation HP: http://www.opcfoundation.org/ Check out the White Papers on DCOM Settings. Best regards J_Bell

I have got 2 PC's. 1'st PC contains a SCADA system and is using Simatic Net OPC to communicate with several Siemens PLC's. 2'nd PC is a control system that controls eg. 50 PLC's to make a plant running. On the 1'st PC I would like to use the Simatic Net Package if possible to gather this information sent from the 2'nd PC. Here I need som kind of driver to do this But.... My problem is that I do not know if it is possible to send something, build a protocol on the 2'nd PC that makes it possible for the Simatic Net to send/receive information between the SCADA system on the 1'st PC and the control system on the 2'nd PC Best regards mjadk

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear mjadk, I am sorry.. but as you do not offer more information I expect that both systems run on Windows XP or comparable OS. In this case the easiest way to exchange Data from one PC to another one is by using DCOM and another OPC Client... on some way. Maybe your Control PC is not Windows based, sadly I do not know anything about it, it is worth it to check what this OS is capable of. You surely may use SEND / RECEIVE Functions on TCP, UDP or ISO on TCP Protocol.... you even may use FETCH / WRITE on this but you will have to care about the sense and the use of the Data you transfer and you receive. It is hardto say something about a system you know nothing about. Best regards J_Bell
