Hi, A while ago I posted a question on Simatic powercontrol and, since it's a relatively new product, not everyone knows it... After some researching and contacts with Siemens, I found out a few important things to know when specifying powercontrol... Thought I'd share it with you guys... First of all, you can get some information on Simatic powercontrol on the Power Management System site, and also on the Automation Mall. Powercontrol seems to be quite easy to use. It does work with other SCADA software, as long as they support OCX. SPC uses a separate SQL database for its data. The SPC controls can send the data to the SCADA system through OPC. In WinCC, for instance, the procedure would be: 1. Add the OPC chanel driver in the "Tag Managament" 2. Browse in the OPC Item Manager to "Siemens.SPC.DAServer1" 3. Choose the tags you whould like to write in internal tags. The data is, then, sent to internal tags. This makes sure powertags aren't used, so powercontrol will not add to your tag count. Archive tags aren't counted either. Since powercontrol uses a separate database, WinCC's regular controls (e.g. Alarm Control, Trend Control) will not work for powercontrol data. In my SCADA systems there's always an alarm window at the top or bottom, displaying the last 2 or 3 alarms. So if you use WinCC's controls, this will work for the other alarms, like the ones from the PLC's, but not for powercontrol. You'd need to use powercontrol's OCX to see its alarms, and 2 alarm bars are a little too much... In the system I'm specifying, the data must be sent through OPC to Simatic IT, since the customer will also have MES solutions. So the solution I thought of to send this data out turned out to be the same one Siemens' support sent me: writing a script to send that data to external tags. Of course you'd then need to count the powertags and archive tags... but this would also allow you to use WinCC's native alarm controls to display powercontrol's alarms! Of course you'd also need to configure those alarms in Alarm Logging... which is a bit of a drag... On the Power Management System website I posted above you'll also find info on the WinCC and PCS-7 option powerrate. There's some more on WinCC powerrate on the WinCC Add-ons site. WinCC powerrate would theoretically deliver the same informations powercontrol does. But since it's brand new, we don't have much info on it here. What I heard is Siemens created this add-on to be used with WinCC, while powercontrol could also be used with other systems. Maybe someone else has some further info on powerrate... I'm still trying to find out whether it uses WinCC's databases (so WinCC's native controls can be used), tags are counted, etc, etc... If I do find out I'll post here... Till then, maybe someone else can provide us that info! Anyone? Best regards, Danielle |
