Simatic S5 Windows 8.1

Hi,

I have a Simatic S5-90U, but I can't get it working on Windows 8.1 64 bit.

The setup:

PC -- USB->Serial converter -- Siemens RS232 to sumatic converter -- S5 90U

The things I've tried + errors:

S5 for Windows: Can't connect or find the thing

Step 5 software: Crashes when installing, because of a 16 bit file error.

Drivers:

-Installed libusb0, because s5 for windows asked for it, didn't help

-Installed plcvcomm: because someone stated it on this forum

-installed some more drivers, no luck

I restarted the PC everytime, so that can't be the error.

Not even S7 works with Win 8.

I think a solutions would be using a virtual machine with Win XP, 7 or something older
