Dear forum members,

what would be a “native” protocol that is used to interconnect Siemens PLCs? I’ve heard of S7. Having mentioned that, here are a couple of questions, I hope you would help me to clarify:

1. Is “S7” protocol specified with RFC1006? Which is basically message implementation for TCP/IP?
2. How would you connect Siemens PLCs with SIMATIC S7-1500 as a “head” of the automation cell? (hardware manufactured by Siemens only will be added to the cell in the future)
