SIMATIC Version Control

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hello I am looking forproject version control within the S7 SIMATIC software package. I am just learning the S7 SIMATIC software package. Last week, I thought I saw in one of the project menus, an option for software version control. On my software, the option was disabled, like it was an opotional software license/module my compnay does not own. I am now trying to recall where in the software I saw it. Maybe it was like AutoDesk Vault, where the engineer can "checkout" the project and then others can't save to it until they can "checkout" the same version? We have multiple engineers working on the same project, so I am interested in making sure we all are working in the correct version. Thank you David Littlejohn

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hristo Thank you the reply. I have SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional and WinCC flexible 2008 Advanced. I cannot remember the exact place I saw the item. I vaguely recall seeing something at the bottom of a menu tree in one of the software packages. I thought it was within SIMATIC Manager, however not that I can find again. Again, vaguely, I thought the item said something like "revision control" or "version control" and was either ghosted out or had a license required message... something to that effect. David

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	I looked at VersionTrail further. Unfortunately, I don't think it will provide the detail I am looking for in regards to chhanged program code. The Block Compare utility has the same level of detail - or, Version Trail simply uses the existing Block Compare utiliity for you... My issue wiith that is that if a block is different, Block Compare "can" bring you to the part that is different, but it doesn't highlight what the difference is. So on a larger code line,or ladder rung, you have to manually search each address and instruction. It's easy to miss a small change (like PIW260, vs PIW280) in a big group of text. Also, it seems like if a new rung is added to the block, Block Compare then shows you each rung as changed, when in fact they are not. That becomes a big headache comparing each rung.
