Simocode on S7 400H red.System.

Yes you are right. i know but i am looking for cheaper solution to achieve redundancy(Simocode dont have red. configuration) so i was thinking of some optical ring. You do not need a redundant IM 153-2 module and Y-link for each simocode unit. The Y-link creates a new master system therefore in theory you could have 123 slaves however you will probably have issues with data limits on the slave side of the Y link. One other thing to be aware of is that you can only use the GSD file for the Simocode after a Y-link not the metadata file that you would traditionally use.

The thing is that my customer needs reduandancy for Y link and he is not happy with using one y link master system. that is why i was looking for a solution wherein i will get red.simocode system(simocode dosen't support red.system by itself).so if the one simocode fails other still must communicate with master. regards

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well, you are right, but the problem is that a SIMOCODE has only one PROFIBUS DP interface. So if you have two Masters trying to access the same slave one will miss. To solve this the Y-Link is the unit to choose, it has two interfaces which work simultaneously. A PROFIBUS redundancy with only one interface is not possible. So the costly solution is the one with one Y-Link for every SIMOCODE. If you want an cheaper one you may build a single line with all SIMOCODEs on and a Y-Link as its Head. A solution with OLM will not work because it is the same as with the single interfaces. To tell you the truth, I do not know any other solutions for single head DP Slaves than the Y-Link in an H-System. Best regards J_Bell

If this is it then possibly the use of repeaters would be a cheaper solution for. Using repeaters would allow you to create a new segment for each Simocode with the knowledge that if one Simocode does fail it will not affect other Simocodes on different segments. There quite a few vendors out there for Profibus repeaters just make sure you research their limitations before deciding on which one to use.
