    Wish everyone is doing fine today, actually this post isn't about any problem, instead it is a general topic about Simotion.

    In last five months, i have been involved in two projects where there is a Simotion D type CPU in hardware configuration. One of them was in a sheet metal preperation line and the second one was for controling multiple hydraulic axes. I was not the programmer of Simotion parts of the projects although started working about it really hard to learn. It's been 2 months and proceeded a lot.

    My question is; during i was working on it, a lot of people told me that it is a waste of time since Siemens is going to release a new version of S7-1500 series CPU which include all capabilities of Simotion D. Even WinCC professional in TIA does not have a communication driver for Simotion, whenas WinCC 7.3 had. The retirement of Simotion D; Is this just a kind of a gossip, or real ?   Or even Siemens does that what kind of an interface will the new CPU have since as you know Simotion Scout TIA is an extremely extensive software which every single detail about process is considered, so how these are going to be turned over to TIA ?

  I know why most of the PLC programmers hate it, it has a different user interface when compared to S7 CPUs and people have diffuculties of programming and understanding it. I think that can be explained by the popular saying: Doesn't know how to dance... Claims that the stage is tilted.  

   What are your opinions about this one ? Should it be discontinued and is there a need of a new S7 CPU which has the abilities of Simotion, with a similar programming interface compared other S7 CPUs ?

For high end Motion Control applications SIMOTION is the best (and for machine tool´s a SINUMERIK).  But I think there are a lot of customers which prefer SIMATIC, so they can use it, if the motion control functionality is sufficient.

You see the same on the drive´s. First the SINAMICS S120 was for motion control and G120 for pump´s and fan´s. Now a middle range drive V90 is on the market and a G120 with CU250S can handle positioning applications. So there is a smooth transition over the systems.
