We are thinking to set up a profinet i device connection in our factory between the main s7 400 plc as IO controller and a s7-300 plc as an io device (the s7 300 runs an independent sub process). How do I set up a connection that the s-7 300 plc sees its own original IO adresses, but that my s-7 400 plc sees it as different IO adresses. Thus for the same signal that my s7 300 plc sees, lets say I 0.0, but that it is seen by the s7-400 as lets say I 12.0.

Maybe the answer is very simple, I have an idea for this to work but I still would like to validate and check it here because I am kindof new in this stuff. Here is my idea:

1. I create a project with the name "I-Device Project" in the SIMATIC Manager of my s7 300 PLC.

2. I add a new "SIMATIC 300 station" with the name "I-Device".

3. I open the station in HW Config and configure an ET 200S-CPU (IM 151-8 PN/DP CPU).

4. I configure the IP address parameters.

These s7-300 IP address parameters I fill in are different from the original IP address parameters, so lets say I 0.0 is configured than as I 12.0. This is done to let the s7-400 see the signal as I 12.0.

Is this correct?

there are 2 transfer-area-types that can be selected in the I-Device-properties.

-Application:

the Input-Adresses, that you are project in the I-Device are Output-Adresses in the IO-Controller

-IO-Transfer area:

There you can set a whole module or submodule as transfer area.

Today I tried to configure the i-device but found out that the s300 CPU is a 315-2PN/DP with firmware version 2.3. I needed to update the firmware to  V 3.2 to be able to use i-device, but if I do this, we have to go offline in the sub process that the s300 takes care of and maybe even change its program.

Is there an alternative? I found that I could use SFC 68 "X PUT" and SFC 67 "X GET''. Is this a good option?

I read 22.6 of the SFC manual, but it is still not completely clear which VAR_ADDR i need to type in. Lets say I want to read my inputs from I 0.0 to 9.7. How do I find the corresponding data area of my s7-300 CPU, and do I just use the SFC or do I have to add symbols in my symbol list to add the IO of the s-300?

And can I put REQ by default on TRUE, or just leave it blank?

The RET-VAL contains the length of the block of data copied to the receive area RD as a positive number of bytes.

How do I seperate the inputs that I receive?

There you find out every possibility of communication between them. In your case, S7-300 and S7-400, see page 96.

I think the easiest way to communicate in this way is to use PUT/GET with S7-Communication. Following FAQ with Applicationsample may help you:
