Sinamics drive sellection

Hello expert

If i want to made a revamping to the crane ( 150 ton, 110 kw AC Slip ring IM, in steel factory ) from conventional control ( classical ) to drive control by sinamics drive,  so

• What is the suitable Sinamics drive type that I can use ( G or S type) ?.
• What is the suitable control type for my application ?

where the crane has two constant speed levels (low speed and fast speed) and it's motor with gear box.

Your question would be best answered by your local Siemens partner as you have some major application engineering challenges.  I wouldn't rely on "some person on a forum", including myself.  That said -

Challenge 1 - you have an old slipring motor.  You will need to short out the rotor windings that go to resistors.  Some people leave in a small resistance value, others don't.  Your insulation windings may or may not be adequate for VFD operation.  You will need to keep your motor leads very short and probably add a line reactor or sine wave filter to the output.

Challenge 2.  That is a big crane.  You will probably want 4 quadrant operation, so that will limit you to S120 with either a Smart Line Module or am Active Line Module.  If you want to do your regeneration with a big Dynamic Braking Resistor, that will need some attention as to sizing.  In that case you can probably use a G120 drive.

Challenge 3.  Encoderless or with an encoder?  You have very starting torque.  VFD's operating in encoderless operation use V/Hz control at low speeds.  This provides fairly poor low speed operation at high torque.  Adding an encoder with improve this dramatically, allowing full torque at 0 speed.

If you do not know the difference between speed control and torque control, talk to your Siemens partner.  This is fairly fundamental and shows that you do not have a good grasp on how drives work (sorry, sounds harsh, but you are about to spend a bunch of money, so you had better understand what you are spending it on).
